Gas cylinder blast kills three workers and injures another three in Vladimir Region

VLADIMIR, February 03, 3:59 /ITAR-TASS/. Three people were killed and another three injured in a propane cylinder blast on Sunday in the office building of the Rosselkhozkhimia (agricultural chemicals) Company in Melekhovo Township, Vladimir region, an official at the Russian Ministry for Emergencies (RME) regional center reported early Monday.

A message about the explosion came in at 22:24, Moscow time, on Feb 2. As a result of an ensuing fire, the roof and brickwork collapsed on an area of 100 square metres. The fire was put out at 23:20.

"Three people were injured and were brought to the Central District Hospital with injuries of medium gravity. Later on, the bodies of another three victims were found under the rubble. Their identities are being established," the RME official said.

According to RME data, "Negligence in the handling of fire was a tentative cause of the incident".

A source in law enforcement agencies told Itar-Tass earlier that four people had been killed and four injured in the blast. "Those killed and injured are workers of the enterprise," the source added.
