Source: N-fuel uploaded to Beloyarsk NPP reactor

MOSCOW, February 02, (ITAR-TASS). Fuel is being uploaded to the BN-800 fast neutron reactor of the Beloyarsk nuclear power plant, representative of Russia’s nuclear energy authority, Rosenergoatom, Andrei Timonov said.

The Beloyarsk nuclear power plant is in the Sverdlovsk region - the first project of the USSR big nuclear energy. It is Russia’s only plant with energy blocks of various types: energy blocks 1 and 2 have AMB tube thermal neutrons reactors, energy unit number 3 has a BN-600 fast neutron reactor. The fourth, new, unit has a BN reactor of 800 MW, which is bound to become the world’s largest fast-breeder reactor.

The first two reactors have been preserved long-term, and the fuel is removed from them. The Beloyarsk nuclear power plant may have a new, fifth, energy unit with a quick reactor of 1,200 MW.

Currently, the plant producers about ten percent of the electric energy in the Sverdlovsk region.
