Russia upholds direct talks between Israel, Palestine - Lavrov

MOSCOW, January 24. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia upholds the direct talks between Israel and Palestine, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at talks with Palestinian counterpart Riyad Al-Maliki on Friday.

“We realize all difficulties in the Palestinian settlement,” Lavrov said, adding “We hope that an agreement, which will satisfy both parties and comply with the norms of international law, will be reached.”

“Our actions within the Quartet for Mideast Peace and the U.N. will help achieve the goal,” the Russian minister said.

Palestinian refugees

Russia focuses on problems of Palestinian refugees, particularly relief supplies, stressed Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at the meeting.

“We understand perfectly well those hardships that our Palestinian friends are suffering from over current crisis in Syria. Notably, problems of Palestinian refugees,” the minister noted.

“I hope that the policy for providing conditions to attain accord on Syrian crisis will finally help settle this problem. Presently we focus on problems of Palestinian refugees, resumption of relief supplies in the region,” Lavrov said.

The minister recalled that the latest batch of relief supplies was delivered in the region from Russia on Thursday.
