French court rules in favor of extradition of ex-minister to Russia

PARIS, January 16. /ITAR-TASS/. The Appeals Court of the city of Aix-en-Provence has ruled in favor of possible extradition of the former finance minister of the Moscow region, Alexei Kuznetsov, to Russia, a source from the secretariat of the French court told Itar-Tass on Thursday.

The ex-minister was detained on Russia's warrant near St. Tropez in the south of France on July 5, 2013. The regional ex-minister had been on an international wanted list since 2010.

Russian police suspect him of embezzlement of funds from the public utilities budget of the Moscow region, which inflicted losses worth billions of rubles.

The Russian court ordered remand sanctions against the ex-minister in his absence; the Russian Investigative Committee ruled to open a criminal case against him. The Russian investigation is going to prosecute Kuznetsov for at least 150 episodes of embezzlement.
