Moscow investigator detained on suspicion of extortion

MOSCOW, January 14. /ITAR-TASS/. A Moscow investigator has been detained on suspicion of extorting a bribe, the press service of city police told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.

"Internal security agents, jointly with the Federal Security Service, detained an officer of the Main Investigation Office of city police," the press service said noting that the agents have confiscated $500,000 from the suspect.

The investigator and his immediate superiors have been detained, including deputy head of the investigative unit of the Interior Ministry's Department for Moscow. They all will be relieved of their duties," it said.

The press service did not specify the sum of the bribe.

The materials on this fact have been passed to the Investigative Committee which will decide on opening criminal proceedings.
