Russian State Duma speaker to visit Israel at end of February

TEL AVIV, January 13. /ITAR-TASS/. Speaker of the Russian State Duma, lower house of parliament, Sergei Naryshkin will make an official visit to Israel at the end of February.

“We’re planning to expand inter-parliamentary relations and discuss different issues of cooperation in politics, economic and the humanitarian field,” Naryshkin said after a farewell ceremony to the late Israeli ex-premier Ariel Sharon.

The Russian speaker said he succeeded in talking with the Israeli parliament chairman. “I also have several brief contacts with politicians, who took part in the farewell ceremony. I’ve met U.S. Vice-President Joseph Biden and Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman,” Naryshkin said.

Sharon died on January 11. He was Israel’s premier in 2001-2006.
