PYATIGORSK, January 09. /ITAR-TASS/. A counterterrorist operation (CTO) regime has been introduced in two districts of Stavropol Territory from midnight, Moscow time, on Thursday, sources in regional security agencies reported.
The CTO regime has been introduced in connection with the fact that four VAZ cars with five dead bodies with gunshot wounds were found on Wednesday, January 8, in two populated areas of Kirovsky and Predgorny Districts of the Stavropol Territory, a source at the Stavropol Territory’s operations headquarters told Itar-Tass.
An improvised explosive device went off near one of the cars. None was hurt. "Another discovered explosive device was destroyed by a manipulator robot," the operations headquarters source added.
The operations headquarters leadership "has issued an order to alert operation groups" and "a decision has been made to hold a special meeting of the operations headquarters".
"In view of a possible terrorist threat, interaction has been arranged between the operations headquarters and operations headquarters in the constituent entities of the North Caucasian and Southern Federal Districts," the source said.
"The operations headquarters is taking necessary measures. A group of law enforcement organizations and state administration bodies has been urgently set up to implement these measures," the source emphasized.
Earlier, an official at the Territorial center of the Russian Interior Ministry reported that cars with dead drivers had been spotted on Wednesday night. One was found in Predgorny District on the Kavkaz (Caucasus) Federal Road near Lake Tambukan. VAZ-2105 and VAZ- 2107 cars with dead people inside were found in neighboring Kirovsky District, in Zolskaya Village. Those were supposedly motorists who engaged in private taxi-driving. The Interior Ministry Territorial center official pointed out that those killed were local residents, born in 1987 and 1984.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted in connection with the murders.
