MOSCOW, January 03, 15:13 /ITAR-TASS/. A drunken driver detained in the town of Zheleznodorozhny, Moscow region, after a road accident, threw an explosive device at a police patrol, killing one policeman and injuring another.
The detained man was a local resident, aged 54, a law enforcement officer has said. “The main is heavily intoxicated,” he added.
A representative from the Russian Investigative Committee’s investigation department in the Moscow region said the police patrol arrived to the site where a BMW and a VAZ vehicle had collided at about 7:30 Moscow time.
When police were making up a protocol, “the driver of the VAZ car threw an indentified explosive device at police officers. One policeman was killed and another was wounded,” the source said. He said criminal proceedings had been launched under articles 317 and 222 of the Russian Criminal Code (infringement on the life of a policeman and illegal weapons trafficking).
