Average Russian family to spend from 8,000 to 19,000 rubles for New Year celebration

Government-controlled sociological services provide much lower figures than nongovernmental marketing services

MOSCOW, December 31. /ITAR-TASS/. Experts who traditionally seek to forecast how much money the Russians will spend for partying and presents during the New Year/Christmas vacation, have produced the assessments this time that differ by a factor of more than two.

Government-controlled sociological services provide much lower figures than nongovernmental marketing services.

According to the estimates, an average Russian family will spend from 8,000 rubles ($243,5) to 19,000 rubles ($578,4) for presents and entertainment.

The gap may partly the explained by the difference of objectives and methodologies of assessment. While the All-Russia Public Opinion Research Center (WCIOM) seeks to assess the spending of each Russian citizen, other analysts try to figure out the spending per family.
