Pyatigorsk car blast kills three policemen - source

PYATIGORSK, December 27, 20:42 /ITAR-TASS/. Three policemen were killed in a car blast in the city of Pyatigorsk in Russia’s southern Stavropol Territory, a spurce in the local law enforcement agencies told Itar-Tass on Friday, adding that it was preliminary information.

The car explosion occurred at about 20:00 Moscow time in Cherkesskoye Highway. “Three people - the driver and two passengers, presumably police officers, died. The blast damaged for more cars and broke windows in a nearby caf,” the source said.

The police are taking measures to prevent further illegal actions and to establish the causes of a car blast that killed several persons in the city of Pyatigorsk, the press service of the territorial police department told Itar-Tass on Friday.

The police have cordoned off the site and evacuated people from a potentially hazardous area.

A special team of investigators has been set up to probe into the incident.
