Air defense units of Land Forces held almost 70 exercises with field firing in 2013

MOSCOW, December 26. /ITAR-TASS/. About 70 exercises with field firing have been held in the outgoing year by air defense troops of Russia's Land Forces, Alexander Leonov, chief of the air defense troops of Land Forces, told journalists on Thursday.

"In 2013, forces, military units and subunits of branches of service continued to refine the system of exercises with field firing at various levels — from an anti-aircraft battalion to a group of air defense troops and District aviation. About 70 exercises with field firing have been held by the air defense troops of military districts, air defense units of coastal missile-and-artillery troops, Marines, and airborne forces," he said.

According to Leonov, all the exercises were held under the direction of commanders or deputy commanders with the participation of air units and anti-aircraft missile troops of the Air Force. Besides, the exercises of air defense troops really involved token units from among combined-arms forces. Military units and special-purpose troops (reconnaissance, electronic countermeasures, chemical defense, and engineer troops) were assigned to bring about a complicated operational and radio electronic situation.
