Three gunmen killed in Dagestan, two policemen wounded

MOSCOW, December 26, 0:20 /ITAR-TASS/. Gunmen from the Buinaksk group have been killed in Dagestan, the National Antiterrorism Committee reported.

On Wednesday at about 16:00 Moscow time, traffic policemen in the city of Buinaksk attempted to stop a VAZ car for examination. The persons who were in the car opened fire and attempted to escape. Two policemen were wounded. Three gunmen were neutralized in the exchange of fire.

The gunmen were indentified. According to the information of the operational headquarters in the Republic of Dagestan, two of them more than a year ago joined gunmen's illegal undeground activities and were active members of the so-called Buinaksk criminal group, the NAC information centre said.

The group committed a series of crimes -- extortions of large sums from businessmen, blasts and attacks on law-enforcement officers, servicemen and civilians.

Homemade grenades and firearms were found at the site of shooting.

No civilians were hurt.
