Lawmakers ratify agreement on Tajik citizens’ stay in Russia

MOSCOW, December 25. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia’s Federation Council upper house of parliament has ratified an agreement between Russia and Tajikistan on preferential procedures for citizens of Tajikistan staying on Russian Federation territory.

The agreement, signed in Moscow in February, allows Tajik citizens to stay in Russia for 15 days without registering. All other foreign nationals are required to be registered within seven days after entering the country.

Parliamentarians believe that ratification of the agreement will have a positive impact on the general character of intergovernmental co-operation between Russia and Tajikistan.

The incoming flow of migrants from Tajikistan increased by almost 20 percent this year, Russian Federal Migration Service director Konstantin Romodanovsky said. At December 18, 2013, around 1.3 million Tajik citizens entered the Russian Federation.
