Putin signs law on broader use of state anthem, flag

The state flag should be permanently hung up at buildings of general education institutions, raised during public events, including sportive and fitness and health events

MOSCOW, December 23. /ITAR-TASS/. President Vladimir Putin has signed a law on broader use of the state anthem and flag.

A corresponding document has been put on the legal information portal.

The law makes amendments to the law on the state flag of the Russian Federation. The amendments say the state flag should be permanently hung up at buildings of general education institutions. The flag is also being raised during public events, including sportive and fitness and health events, conducted by educational institutions.

The state anthem will be played in general education institutions and professional organisations regardless the form of ownership, as well as during solemn events devoted to state and municipal holidays.

“The anthem of the Russian Federation must be played while opening monuments and commemorative tokens, opening and closing solemn meetings devoted to state and municipal holidays,” the document says.

The law will come into effect from September 1, 2014.
