Aftershocks of quake in Russia’s Khakassia registered in Kemerovo region

KEMEROVO, December 22, 2:19 /ITAR-TASS/. The aftershocks of an earthquake that rocked Khakassia, a republic in South Siberia, were registered in Kemerovo Region, south-western Siberia, the regional emergency situation department reported on Sunday.

“The tremors of 1-1.5 points on the MSK-64 scale were registered in southern and central districts of Kemerovo Region. No threat exists for the buildings to be destroyed,” the department said.

The earthquake measured 4.6 points on the open-ended Richter scale has occurred in Altai district of Khakassia, 50 kilometres south of the regional centre of Abakan, overnight to Sunday. The Krasnoyarsk scientific-research institute of geology and mineral resources noted that the earthquake has occurred at 01:51 local time on Sunday (21:51 Moscow time on Saturday). The residents of Abakan and other Khakassia’s districts and Krasnoyarsk Territory were feeling the tremors.
