Construction of link across Kerch Strait to help form Europe-Asia transport corridor

KIEV, December 17, 22:37 /ITAR-TASS/. The construction of the Kerch transport link, the agreement on which was reached at the meeting of the Russian-Ukrainian Interstate Commission in Moscow on Tuesday, “will make it possible to create a new international transport corridor from Europe to Asia,” a source in the press service of the Ukrainian Ministry of Infrastructure said on Tuesday.

“This will be the main link in the implementation of a larger international transport project to create a ring transport corridor around the Black Sea,” a representative of the ministry said. “The transport link across the Kerch Strait will make Crimea more attractive for international transportation.

According to the agreement signed on Tuesday on joint actions to start construction and stage-by-stage implementation of the project to create the transport link across the Kerch Strait, Russian and Ukrainian experts must prepare the feasibility report in 2014. It will be used as the basis for calculating cargo flows and deciding what kind of a link should be built - whether it should be a tunnel or a bridge.
