Bad weather leaves more than 600 settlements without electricity in Central Russia

MOSCOW, December 13. /ITAR-TASS/. Bad weather has caused power outages in more than 600 settlements in Russia’s Central Federal District.

The press service of the Central Regional Emergencies Centre told Itar-Tass that tree branches, broken by wet snow, were falling on power transmission lines, which resulted in wire breaks. There was also icing of transmission lines due to sharp air temperature variations.

“Blackouts have occurred in the Tver, Yaroslavl and Ivanovo regions,” the source said.

More than 3,300 houses with more than 1,000 dwellers were left without electricity in 601 settlements.

“The launched emergency restoration work is planned to be completed by 18:00, Moscow time,” the centre said.
