Russia’s suicide rates exceed world’s average by half

MOSCOW, December 12. /ITAR-TASS/. Suicide rates in Russia exceed the world’s average by 1.5 times, according to Boris Polozhiy, a department head of the State Research Centre of Socialand Forensic Psychiatry.

“Since 1991, the country has lost about one million people [from suicides], an entire city,” he said, adding that suicide statistics showed that the biggest number suicide cases were registered among people of employable age and teenagers.
