MOSCOW, December 12, 15:29 /ITAR-TASS/. Creation of a Prompt Global Strike System /PGS/ by the U.S. will have a highly dangerous and destabilizing impact, Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said Thursday.
“We’re watching very attentively developments in the U.S. around the PGS concept,” he said in an interview with the Kommersant Daily, which the Foreign Ministry published at its official website.
“If changes in the current plans take place and Washington reverts to the deployment of intercontinental ballistic missiles and submarine-based ballistic missiles with conventional warheads, these carriers will all the same be considered as nuclear ones under the rules of the effective START treaty and will be taken due account of in the course of defense planning /on the Russian side/,” Ryabkov said.
