Mortality from tuberculosis in Russia goes down by 20% over two years

MOSCOW, December 10. /ITAR-TASS/. Mortality from tuberculosis in Russia has decreased by 20 percent over the past two years, Russian Minister of Health Veronika Skvortsova said on Tuesday, adding that Russia’s tuberculosis treatment methods had been adopted by other countries.

“We have made considerable progress in treatment of tuberculosis,” she said. “Over the past two years, mortality from tuberculosis has dropped by 20 percent. Our experience is studied by international structures.”

However, the tuberculosis situation in a number of regions - the Chukotka autonomous area, the Kamchatka Territory, and the Orenburg region - leaves much to be desired, she said, adding that the key reason for that is poor contact with the Federal Penitentiary Service.
