Days of municipal districts of Russia’s Novgorod region to take place in St. Petersburg

“Representatives of four municipal units will open the Days of Cooperation program; business meetings will be held late in December

VELIKIY NOVGOROD, December 10. /ITAR-TASS/. Days of municipal districts of Russia’s Novgorod region will take place in St. Petersburg in December 2013 and January 2014, a source at the Novgorod region’s government told Itar-Tass.

“Representatives of four municipal units, including the Valdai, Poddorsky, Demyansky and Marevsky municipal districts, will open the Days of Cooperation program. Business meetings will be held late in December,” Alexander Filippov, the vice-governor of the Novgorod region, explained to Itar-Tass.

The program of events includes presentations of municipal districts, official meetings, roundtables, talks and signing ceremonies at which agreements for cooperation in various spheres will be concluded. The local farmers, enterprises, food processing plants will bring meat and dairy products, fish, canned meat, vegetables, potatoes, eggs and forest goods to fairs.

The Days of the Novgorod region in St. Petersburg have been organized as part of an agreement for trade, economic, scientific-technological, social and cultural cooperation which the Novgorod region and St. Petersburg signed four years ago. Over that period of time, the Novgorod region and St. Petersburg, which is also called Russia’s northern capital, have implemented several major joint projects.

Under an agreement with the St. Petersburg Food Foundation, the Novgorod region supplies potatoes and vegetables to the city markets. Several small enterprises from various districts of the Novgorod region have signed contracts for the delivery of wooden houses, bathhouses and summerhouses to organizations in St. Petersburg. Students and schoolchildren from St. Petersburg visit Velikiy Novgorod to see its historical and cultural heritage.

The Novgorod region develops cooperation with the St. Petersburg Mariinsky Theatre and its artistic director Valery Gergiev. The theatre has given 12 concerts in Velikiy Novgorod, including an open-air performance of “Sadko”, an opera by Russian composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, staged in the Novgorod Kremlin.

In 2013, Velikiy Novgorod hosted the Days of St. Petersburg for the first time. One of the main offers made at that time was to provide land allotments in the Novgorod region for the construction of housing dwellings and homes for St. Petersburg families with many children.

The Days of municipal districts of the Novgorod region will take place on December 17, 18, 20 and 24 and will continue in January 2014 with participation of other districts.
