CAPE TOWN, December 06, (ITAR-TASS). It is up to the Ukrainian people to choose their country’s further development vector, Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev said.
“Ukraine is facing a choice where to go further - either towards the European Union or to the Customs Union [of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan],” he said in an interview with Itar-Tass. “The choice is very serious but no one has asked people and no one has organize a referendum on that matter.”
“But we hear the opinion of the West and its representatives who think they know better what Ukraine really needs. It is up to the people to decide, to take a decision, and we shall respect it,” he said, adding that Ukraine’s current president and the government had been authorized by the people to make decisions.
