Lavrov: No legal base on border cooperation in Russia

“We believe that more active steps should be taken to promote a draft law,” the minister said

MOSCOW, December 03. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia has no legal base on border cooperation, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

Speaking at a session of the Council of Heads of Constituent Entities on Tuesday, Lavrov said, “There are issues that should be worked on. First of all, Russia has no legal base on border cooperation. A corresponding federal law should be approved.”

“We believe that more active steps should be taken to promote a draft law,” the minister said.

“It is also necessary to step up the efforts to ratify Protocol · 3 of the European Outline Convention on Transfrontier Cooperation, which regulates the activity of European regions,” he said.

“The Protocol signed by Russia in June 2012 conforms to the EU Regulation and creates a modern legal base to intensify border relations with our European partners,” Lavrov said.
