Medvedev: Infant death rate sharply on decline in half of Russian regions

GORKI, December 02. /ITAR-TASS/. The infant death rate is sharply on decline in half of Russian regions and it is more than 70 percent down in many constituent entities, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said at a meeting devoted to the fulfillment of the May 7, 2012 decrees of the Russian president here on Monday.

“The situation in this sphere has been improving gradually over the past seven years,” he recalled. “But for the last few years we passed to a new criterion of diagnosing ‘newborns alive’.”

“In half of Russian regions the infant death rate is sharply on decline and it is more than 70 percent down in many regions,” Medvedev added.
