Power supply cut off in 175 settlements in Leningrad region due to cyclone

A storm warning was issued in the region on Monday

ST. PETERSBURG, December 02. /ITAR-TASS/. A powerful cyclone in the Leningrad region has caused power outage in 175 settlements, the Northwest regional center of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry reported on Monday morning.

Power failures have been registered in the Volkhov, Luga, Kingisepp, Lomonosov and Slantsy districts. More than 22,500 people are without electricity supply.

Twenty repair brigades with 20 machinery units are involved in the restoration efforts. The EMERCOM main department for the Leningrad region has been put on the alert, the response headquarters are working.

A storm warning was issued in the region on Monday. Meteorologists have forecast heavy snow, a blizzard and a strong wind with force of 19-24 meters per second.
