Russia will continue its efforts to help Palestinians build their national state, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a message to the Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on Friday, the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. The message was read out by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and presidential Middle East envoy Mikhail Bogdanov at a gala reception on this occasion.

“Dear Mister President, please accept my whole-hearted greetings on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. Relations between our countries have been traditionally developed in a positive way,” the message said. “Russia, as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and a participant in the Middle East Quartet of international mediators, has been standing in favour of the realization of the Palestinian people’s legal interests and aspirations.”

“We highly appreciate Your principles position in favour of a peace settlement of the Middle East conflict on the basis of the generally recognized international law. We are paying tribute to Your decision to resume talks with Israel. We support Your efforts for the restoration of the intra-Palestinian unity on the basis of the Palestine Liberation Organization’s Charter and the Arab peace initiative,” the Russian president said in his message.

“Russia will continue necessary assistance to the building of the Palestinian national state to ensure its socio-economic development, including through the implementation of such important projects as the construction of a multi-functional complex in Bethlehem, the reconstruction of the historical centre of that city,” the Russian leader noted. “I sincerely wish You good health and further achievements, and peace and prosperity to the Palestinian people.
