Russian deputy foreign minister, German ambassador to Moscow discuss situation in Syria

The sides expressed readiness to take active efforts to promote the process of the destruction of Syria’s chemical weapons

MOSCOW, November 29, 18:54 /ITAR-TASS/. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov met on Friday with German Ambassador to Russian Ulrich Brandenburg to discuss the situation in Syria, the Russian foreign ministry reported.

“The sides expressed readiness to take active efforts to promote the process of the destruction of Syria’s chemical weapons and establish a peace dialogue between parties to the conflict on the basis of the Geneva communique of June 30, 2012,” the ministry said.

The focus was made on the “situation in Syria and ways of political and diplomatic settlement of the conflict in that country,” the ministry noted. “In this contexts, the sides stressed the importance to set the date for a peace conference on Syria in Geneva on January 22, 2014.
