On November 27, deputies of the Legislative Assembly terminated the powers of Yevgeny Ovechkin ahead of time for a proven fact of holding foreign shares

VLADIVOSTOK, November 29. /ITAR-TASS/. The Primorsky Krai branch of the United Russia party has suspended party membership of former deputy of the region’s Legislative Assembly Yevgeny Ovechkin for the period of investigation of a criminal case that has been opened against him, the UR branch press secretary Olga Ilchinko told Itar-Tass on Friday.

Ovechkin in 2011 was elected deputy to the fifth Legislative Assembly of the Primorsky Krai from United Russia. From December 16, 2011 to May 30, 2013 he was speaker of the Primorsky parliament. Last May, he tendered resignation after a criminal case over fraud was opened against him. The case investigation is currently underway.

On November 27, deputies of the Legislative Assembly terminated the powers of Ovechkin ahead of time for a proven fact of holding foreign shares, which is prohibited by the anti-corruption legislation. This fact had been revealed in April 2012 during an inspection conducted by the Russian Investigative Committee and prosecutor’s office of the Primorsky Krai that established that the MP and his wife owned shared of two foreign companies.
