MOSCOW, November 22. /ITAR-TASS/. Chairman of the Federation Council’s international affairs committee Mikhail Margelov called Ukraine’s foreign policy reasonable, since, despite rapprochement with the European Union, it is seeking cooperation with CIS countries.

Margelov called Ukraine’s choice timely as already “at the stage of preparations for the association, Ukraine’s economy has tilted due to inactive trade relations with the CIS.” “And the European Union, clearly, is not going to compensate fully for those losses,” he said. “Ukraine, in its turn, would not want to depend on the IMF - every loaned dollar there is followed by a requirement of a social-economic or even political character.”

The senator stressed “Ukraine’s government has given a direct order to the ministries and authorities to undertake measures for making certain changes to programs, aimed at development of trade, industrial cooperation and technology exchange with the CIS member-countries.
