Russia, Brazil FMs to hold talks in Moscow Wed

The Ministers will examine the state of and prospects for the development of bilateral contacts

MOSCOW, November 20, 6:46 /ITAR-TASS/. The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Russia and Brazil, Sergei Lavrov and Luiz Alberto Figueiredo, meet here on Wednesday to discuss prospects for bilateral contacts, and interaction within the scope of international organizations.

An RF Foreign Ministry official said, "The Ministers will examine the state of and prospects for the development of bilateral contacts, review the implementation of the accords reached as a result of the Brazilian president's official visit to Moscow in December 2012, and discuss in detail interaction at the UN, BRICS, G20, WTO, and Latin America regional integrational associations, of which Brazil is a member."

The Ministry official pointed out that Russia and Brazil "act from common positions on key themes that are on the international agenda, and take joint steps to fashion a multipolar world set-up, and enhance the central role of the UN and UN Security Council as universal instruments for the maintenance of peace and setlement of conflict situations". They also cooperate "in matters aimed at reforming world monetary instituions, and at ensuring international information security".

Luiz Alberto Figueiredo's visit to Moscow is expected to become a "regular important step in strengthening the relations of strategic partnership between the two countries," the official emphasized. "Special imprtance to the visit is added by the fact that it is made in the year of the celebration of the 185th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Brazil," the RF Foreign Ministry official said.
