Putin to chair RF Security Council session to discuss environmental protection

MOSCOW, November 20, 2:24 /ITAR-TASS/. President Vladimir Putin will chair Russia's Security Council session in the Kremlin here on Wednesday to discuss national security in the sphere of environmental protection and the management of natural resources, the Kremlin press service reported.

The main report is to be made by Minister of Natural Resources Sergei Donskoy.

Those present at the session are expcected to examine various matters concerning ecological security and environmental protection, specifically a refinement of the system to prevent damage to ecology and environment-related offences, and ways to raise the quality of air and drinking water in big cities, disposal of waste, as well as problems connected with the purificationand rehailitation of polluted areas in the Arctic zone of Russia.

Matters relating to the living systems and the use of natural resources are among priorities set forth in Russia's National Security Strategy for a period until 2020.
