Congress of peoples of Russia to open in Dagestan’s Makhachkala

Since its foundation the congress became a venue for debates to share the experience for the fulfillment of the national policy in the country

MAKHACHKALA, October 18 (Itar-Tass) - The Congress of the Peoples of Russia will open in the capital of the North Caucasus republic of Dagestan on Friday. Chief executives of federal ministries and agencies, representatives of political parties, public organizations and scientists will discuss the issues related with the development of multinational Russia and the strategy of state national policy in the country.

Since its foundation the congress became a venue for debates to share the experience for the fulfillment of the national policy in the country, search for the way to respect historical and cultural traditions of each ethnos and build up the unity of the multinational nation of Russia.

On Friday, an exhibition of old manuscripts from the manuscript fund of the Dagestani scientific centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the photo exhibition “Dagestan in Faces”, different master classes in Dagestani crafts and the festival of national cultures “Rainbow of Russia” will be held within the congress.

The congress will round off with the adoption of the final document - the Dagestani declaration on historical friendship and joint creativity of the peoples of Russia.

The previous Congresses of the Peoples of Russia were held in Moscow, Yaroslavl, Ulyanovsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Yakutsk and Grozny. This time the congress is timed to the celebrations on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of final accession of Dagestan in the Russian state and the 90th anniversary of famous national poet of Dagestan Rasul Gamzatov, the press service of the ministry of national policy of Dagestan reported. The delegations from about all Russian constituent entities will arrive in Makhachkala to participate in the Congress of the Peoples of Russia, the press service said. Lawmakers from the Federation Council, the State Duma, officials from the Russian presidential administration, several federal ministries and agencies will participate in the forum. Well-known scientists, specialists in historical sciences, state national policy and the practice of ethnic and confessional relations will also come to attend the congress.

The Assembly of the Peoples of Russia was established in 1998 as one of the most important instruments for the fulfillment of the Russian state national policy. The assembly is a self-governed all-Russia public organization, which brings together more than 160 peoples of Russia. The branches of the assembly work successfully in 72 Russian constituent entities.
