Honduran foreign ministry’s visit to Russia to promote cooperation with Latin America

MOSCOW, October 11 (Itar-Tass) - A visit to Moscow by Honduras’ Foreign Minister Mireya Aguero will promote closer relations between Russia and Latin American countries, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said on Friday.

“Mireya Aguero’s visit to Russia due on October 12-16 is the first in the history of bilateral relations Russian visit by Honduras’ foreign minister,” he said. “We hope it will give an impetus to the development of bilateral ties. The visit is part of Russia’s course towards expanding cooperation with Latin American countries, including Central American states.”

The visit’s programme wiil be very busy. Thus, on Monday, October 14, she will have talks with her Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov. The two ministers will discuss prospects for the development of the political dialogue, expanding cooperation in various spheres, upgrading the legal framework of bilateral relations, and the most acute problems of the international agenda. After the talks, Aguero and Lavrov will sign a joint statement. The Honduran foreign minister will also attend the opening of her country’s embassy in Moscow.

Apart from that, the programme of the visit includes talks at the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the National Committee for Economic Cooperation with Latin American Countries.

Agiero will also meet with the faculty and students of the Russian People’s Friendship University, which has trained 141 citizens of Honduras and awarded academic degrees to 21 of them.
