MOSCOW, October 11 (Itar-Tass) - Russia is interested in developing contacts with Kuwait in the bilateral format and in the framework of cooperation with the Gulf Cooperation Council, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Friday, opening talks with Kuwaiti Vice-Premier and Foreign Minister Sabah Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.

"Violent events take place in the region at present. The regular and confidential exchange of views with our friends gives an additional possibility to understand developments better and try to contribute to the peaceful settlement of conflicts in the important geographic space," Lavrov said.

The Kuwaiti minister noted that the meeting showed the deepness of relations between Russia and Kuwait. There are no doubts that the two countries are interested in the visit to be a powerful impetus to further development of friendly relations, he noted.
