MOSCOW, September 20 (Itar-Tass) - Russia’s Foreign Ministry has condemned the shooting of a motorcade of the EU’s law and order mission, known as EULEX, in northern Kosovo, the ministry’s spokesman, Alexander Lukashevich, said on Friday.

On September 19 gunmen shot dead a European Union police officer in northern Kosovo. Several more people were wounded. EULEX is investigating the accident, he said.

“We determinedly denounce this provocation of extremist elements,” Lukashevich said. “Evidently, it is targeted at destabilizing the situation in the region in the run-up to the municipal elections on November 3, on which representatives of Belgrade and Pristina have agreed within the framework of the continuing high-level dialogue in Brussels.”
