Tajikistan supports Russia’s Syria chemical weapons initiative

“Russia’s initiative is a hope for Syria’s conflict to be localized," Tajik Foreign Ministry spokesman Abdulfaiz Atoyev said

DUSHANBE, September 11 (Itar-Tass) - Tajikistan has expressed support for Russia’s efforts towards political settlement of Syria’s crisis, including its initiative to put chemical weapons under international control, Tajik Foreign Ministry spokesman Abdulfaiz Atoyev told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.

“The Tajik authorities welcome Russia’s new constructive initiative and believe that a serious step towards preventing escalation of the armed conflict and external aggression has been made,” he said. “Tajikistan has been consistently calling for settling the conflict through political and diplomatic means in other hot spots of the Middle East.”

“Russia’s initiative is a hope for Syria’s conflict to be localized and for the situation in the region in general to stabilize,” Atoyev said.
