Kyrgyzstan and China agree to promote cooperation to strategic partnershi

Kyrgyzstan also welcomed China’s initiative to create Great Silk Road economic zone

BISHKEK, September 11 (Itar-Tass) - Kyrgyzstan and China have agreed to promote their bilateral cooperation to strategic partnership, Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev said after talks with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on Wednesday.

“A special focus was placed on economic relations. Kyrgyzstan also welcomed China’s initiative to create Great Silk Road economic zone,” he said adding that Kyrgyzstan and China had already demonstrated positive results in the implementation of projects in energy, transport, communications and construction.

“The Chinese president’s current visit will open a new page in our relations, they will be taken to a new level and we are at the threshold of new joint grand projects,” Atambayev said.

“We will step up our relations to yield higher results for the good of our nations,” Xi said adding that conditions for taking cooperation with Kyrgyzstan to a new level had matured.

During Xi’s visit to Bishkek China and Kyrgyzstan signed several economic agreements concerning the reconstruction of a thermal power plant in Bishkek and the construction of a new highway to connect Kyrgyzstan’s southern and northern regions and of a section of the Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline.
