VLADIVOSTOK, September 10 (Itar-Tass) - A forum of the Legislative Assemblies and the Assemblies of People's Representatives of Northeast Asian countries opens here on Tuesday.

Members of the legislatures of the Jilin and Heilongjiang provinces, the Yanbian - Korean Autonomous Region, the Kangwon Province of the Republic of Korea (ROK), Japan's Akita Prefecture, the Niigata City Council, and the Central Aimagh of Mongolia are due to participate in the forum, an official in the press service of the Legislative Assembly of the Primorsky Territory (PT) announced.

Discussions will focus on various aspects of regional cooperation among Northeast Asian countries, including exchanges of cultural and socio-political delegations, and environmental problems.

During the forum, its participants from Russia, China, Japan, and ROK will present reports on the following themes: "A Novel View of Cooperation in the Fields of Transport and Logistics in Northeast Asia", "Plan for Cooperation Between Regions of Northeast Asia through the Enlarged Tumangang Initiative", and "The Development of Vladivostok as International Cooperation Center". The forum is to result in the adoption of a Joint Statement by participants in the Meeting.

"We believe that this floor for meetings of MPs, the floor which represents regions around the Sea of Japan (East Sea) plays a big role and can play a greater one, considering the problems that exist between countries. In view of this, the life experience, the knowledge of the practice of interstate relations and the understanding of problems we face here in the East, play a serious role in decision-making. The voice of the parliamentary community of the region is now utterly important," Viktor Gorchakov, Chairman of the PT Legislative Assembly, said in comment on the significance of the forum.
