CIS delegations to discuss joint air defense system development

The meeting of the Coordinating Committee would be chaired by Russian Deputy Defense Minister Colonel-General Oleg Ostapenko

MOSCOW, September 9 (Itar-Tass) - The 39th meeting of the Air Defense Coordinating Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) will be held in Moscow on Monday, the press service of the Russian Ministry of Defense told Itar-Tass.

The ministry specified that the meeting of the Coordinating Committee would be chaired by Russian Deputy Defense Minister Colonel-General Oleg Ostapenko. Taking part in the meeting will be delegations from the Ministries of Defense of Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.

“The meeting participants will discuss the results of the activities of the Coordinating Committee in the first half of 2013, will consider issues related to the organization and conduct of joint operational and combat training of the CIS joint air defense system in 2014, as well as a number of other issues related to the improvement and development of the CIS joint air defense system,” the Russian Defense Ministry said. “Special attention at the meeting will be paid to long-term planning of the development and improvement of the system of multilateral and bilateral military and military-technical cooperation within the CIS framework.”

After the meeting, members of the Coordinating Committee will continue their work at the Ashuluk range in the Astrakhan Oblast, where the active phase of the Combat Commonwealth-2013 exercise of the CIS joint air defense system is conducted in the period from 6 to 11 September.
