MOSCOW, September 5 (Itar-Tass) - Russia’s federal security service FSB has eliminated a group of militants in Kabardino-Balkaria, the national anti-terrorist committee said.

“The group was spotted near the village of Kakhun. An attempt to detain them failed. The militants offered resistance using automatic rifles and hand grenades. All were killed in the clash,” the NAC said.

One of the militants was identified as Ruslan Makoyev, 28, a local warlord, whose group is responsible for a number of high-profile crimes in Kabardino-Balkaria, including the murder of a local agrarian university rector and an attempt on the life of the head of a district administration.

None of the FSB operatives was hurt.
