VIENNA, September 3 (Itar-Tass) - Russia’s Chief of the General Staff and First Deputy Defence Minister Valery Gerasimov has postponed his scheduled working visit to Austria. “It was a forced decision,” Russian Ambassador to Austria, Sergei Nechayev, said on Tuesday.

“It is not meant against Austria,” he said at a ceremony of awarding Russian defence ministry’s medals to Austrian citizens. “The visit has not been cancelled, it was postponed and will take place without fail.”

The medals to Austrian citizens who did much to perpetuate the memory of Soviet soldiers who died during WWII were to have been awarded by the Russian Chief of the General Staff.

According to earlier reports, the central command of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces was put on alert after Israel and the United States had staged missile tests in the Mediterranean Sea.
