KIEV, September 3 (Itar-Tass) - Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich urged the deputies of Ukrainian parliament to unite in the issue of Ukraine’s promotion to Europe and asks not to set European integration against cooperation with Russia. Yanukovich has made a statement on the issue in the Ukrainian parliament on Tuesday.

“The attempts to set cooperation in the European vector against cooperation with our strategic partners - the Russian Federation and the countries of the Eurasian community - are groundless,” he stated.

Meanwhile, he noted the need to prepare for the signing of a Ukrainian association agreement with the European Union. “A success at a Vilnius summit should be prepared. The Verkhovna Rada (Ukraine’s parliament - Itar-Tass) should play a major role in this process. The association with the EU is needed not for the authorities or the opposition, it is needed for Ukraine,” Yanukovich stated.
