Tajikistan's next presidential elections scheduled for November 6

The last elections were held in the country on November 6, 2006

DUSHANBE, August 30 (Itar-Tass) - The date for the next presidential elections in Tajikistan is set for November 6, 2013, as decided by Tajikistan's parliament.

Participants in the joint meeting of the upper and lower houses of the national parliament unanimously voted for the decision on Friday.

The last elections were held in the country on November 6, 2006, in which Emomali Rakhmon was elected head of state by the majority of votes.

When opening the meeting, Lower House Speaker Shukurdzhon Zukhurov noted that election of a president was the pinnacle expression of the will of people. He expressed the hope the elections would be held in a free, transparent and democratic atmosphere.

Deputies, senators, heads of ministries and representatives of all the political parties participated in the meeting.
