Duma speaker: Russia takes responsible approach towards energy security of Slovakia

Sergei Naryshkin: "We seek to diversify supplies of goods and services"

BRATISLAVA, August 28 (Itar-Tass) - Russia takes a responsible approach towards energy security in Slovakia and other European partners, speaker of the Russian State Duma, lower house of parliament, Sergei Naryshkin said.

After the talks with his Slovak counterpart Pavol Paska on Wednesday, Naryshkin said, “Energy is the pivot of our economic cooperation. I assure you that Russia takes a responsible approach towards ensuring energy security of Slovakia and other countries where our country supplies energy carriers.”

During the talks, “we agreed that we did not use the whole potential of economic cooperation. We seek to diversify supplies of goods and services”, the Russian speaker said.

The parliaments of both countries should play a key role in this aspect, he added.

For his part, Paska said he backed the parliaments’ efforts in this field. The Slovak speaker said his country “is ready to contribute to developing our relations, resolving the visa issue and filling the agreement on strategic cooperation with concrete substance”.
