NAZRAN, August 27 (Itar-Tass) - The occupational activity is behind an attempt on the life of Secretary of Ingushetia’s Security Council Akhmed Kotiyev, Ingush President Yunus-Bek Yevkurov said on Tuesday.

He explained that “Kotiyev was engaged in the adaptation of former members of illegal armed units to the peaceful life.” “He was not afraid of voicing openly his opinion to former members of illegal armed units and their relatives,” the regional leader said.

Yevkurov noted that Kotiyev was a brave and valorous man. “It is a matter of honour to find a killer,” he stated.

How Akhmed Kotiyev was killed

Secretary of Ingushetia’s Security Council Akhmed Kotiyev, who was injured in an attempt on his life, died, a source in the republican Interior Ministry told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.

A VAZ-21099 car, in which Kotiyev and his driver were driving, came under fire at 07:30 Moscow time on Tuesday on the Malgobek-Nazran road near the settlement of Nizhniye Achaluki in Malgobek district of the republic.

The driver died instantaneously at the murder scene, Akhmed Kotiyev died on the way to the hospital. The attackers escaped.

Criminal investigation opened

A criminal case is opened over the murder of Secretary of Ingushetia’s Security Council Akhmed Kotiyev and his driver in the North Caucasus Republic of Ingushetia. The criminal case is being investigated under several articles of the Russian Criminal Code for an attempt on the life of a law enforcer, illegal storage and carrying of weapons and ammunition, the republican investigation department of the Russian Investigative Committee told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.

The leadership of the Russian Investigative Committee has sent experienced detectives from its central staff to the North Caucasus Republic of Ingushetia to help investigate the murder of Secretary of the republican Security Council Akhmet Kotiyev, spokesman for the Russian Investigative Committee Vladimir Markin told reporters on Tuesday. 

“On the orders from the leadership of the Russian Investigative Committee experienced detectives from the central staff of the Russian Investigative Committee were dispatched for practical aid in investigation in Ingushetia,” Markin said. In his words, Kotiyev’s occupational activity is a priority theory of the murder.

The team of detectives is working at the murder scene.
