Navalny leaves police station after talk on breach of legislation

MOSCOW, August 26 (Itar-Tass) - Moscow's mayoral candidate Alexei Navalny was invited to poice for a talk in view of breaches of legislation, an officer in the press service of the Interior Ministry's department for the city of Moscow told Itar-Tass.

"One of Moscow's mayoral candiadtes was invited to a police station on Sunday in view of the commission of breaches of the current legislation on the conduct of a mass meeting, the breaches which led to an infringement of the rights and legitimate intersts of citizens, the press service officer said. "After the talk, the citizen left the police station," he said.

Earlier head of Navalny's headquarters Volkov told Itar-Tass that the candidate had been detained in Sokolniki squre right on the stage from which he was addressing the electorate. Volkov maintained that an OMON man came to Navalny and without an explanation escorted him to a security van.

A police source also said that about ten people had been brought to the police station from the place where an electoral meeting was taking place in Sokolniki. Among those detained were people arrested for petty hooliganism and for staying in a public place in a state of intoxication.

"Besides, several people from among organizers of the meeting are being questioned in connection with the fact of the use of electrical equipment, sound amplifying apparatus, as well as the installing of a stage which was hindering a normal movement of pedestrians," the police source added.
