VLADIVOSTOK, August 23 (Itar-Tass) - The Amur flood has begun to inundate the highway from Khabarovsk to Komsomolsk-on-Amur.

The water level is 5-10 cm high on the road at the 145th km and 8 cm at the 162th kilometer.

The flood has also reached other transport links. About two kilometers of the road between Amursk and Ommi are covered with water as high as about a meter.

Food and necessities are delivered to the village of Ommi by boats. Rescuers are on duty at the site, the press service of the Khabarovsk regional government said.

Acting Governor Vyacheslav Shport instructed road workers to operate promptly to protect regional highways from the "big water". "We must be ready for any natural challenge and bring all the forces and means to troubled sections and protect roads for traffic. The priority is people's safety. Under the flood conditions, transport traffic is limited at night," Shport said.

A protection bank is being built near Lake Sinda between the 115th and the117th km of the Khabarovsk-Komsomolsk-on-Amur road with the use of eleven dump trucks, a steam shovel and two bulldozers.

The earthwork at the 143rd km near Lake Gassi is flooded, and 12 dump trucks, a shovel machine, a bulldozer and a grader are working there to reinforce the bank.

There are flooded sections on the "East" federal road near the village of Knyaze-Volkonskoye at the Sita River. About 2,000 cub/m of rock are delivered there to build dikes, and bags filled with clay are used as well.

Intensive work is also underway to reinforce the earthwork at the village of Bogorodskoye.
