Lavrov and South African Foreign Minister to meet ahead G20 Summit

They will discuss situation on African continent

MOSCOW, August 22 (Itar-Tass) - South African Foreign Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane will visit Russia on September 1-3 to meet his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov for talks on the situation on the African continent, Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said on Thursday.

“We intend to have substantial talks on global and regional issues, in particular the situation in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mali and other countries,” Lukashevich said.

Russia considers the South African minister’s upcoming visit “a regular step towards developing multilateral relations between Rusisa and South Africa and strengthening international and regional stability”, the Russian diplomat said.

“Ahead of the G20 summit in St. Petersburg we also intend to synchronise positions on key issues,” he added.
