Oil tank near Irkutsk catches fire, spills

Firefighters do not rule out of another cistern catching fire

IRKUTSK, August 21. (Itar-Tass) – Oil tank which was burning in the area of Angarsk city for over 10 hours, has broken down under immense heat. Burning oil has spilt across the industrial zone, press service of Irkutsk branch of the Emergency Ministry reported.

“Preliminary data shows likelihood of the neighboring oil tank catching fire,” the agency noted. Firefighters are preparing foam deployment to curb the oil fire. Currently 115 staffers and 35 units of machinery of emergency response services are at the scene.

Oil tank located in the industrial zone in Irkutsk region belonging to Deteko company caught fire on Wednesday at 7:08am Moscow time. At the time the cistern with the storage capacity of 5,000 cubic meters, had 3,000 cubic meters of crude oil. The fire was ranked fourth scale out of five in terms of complexity. No casualties were reported.
