BLAGOVESHENSK, August 19 (Itar-Tass) – A dog from the flooded village of Vladimirovka located in Amur region, has escaped its refuge and spent the night chest-deep in water, vigilantly guarding the house against unwanted visitors.

The dog’s owners, Andreev family, told Itar-Tass that their pet, a mutt named Druzhok (Buddy), was brought to their neighbors in the same village, as at the time their house was not flooded. The family themselves evacuated to a nearby town of Blagoveshensk, but left the dog as it was used to hanging out around the village.

However, after three days of being separated from its home, Druzhok braved the elements and swam though the flooded village to guard its territory. Elena Andreeva, one of the members, suggested that he felt someone alien was coming too close to the house: “The dog was standing on the porch throughout the night; rescue workers couldn’t even take it, he was waiting for us!” The family and the dog reunited and returned to Blagoveshensk to live at their friends’ house until water levels drop.

Druzhok has quickly become an internet personality – photo of the courageous dog who guarded the owners’ flooded house is making rounds in social networks, gathering ‘likes’ and comments.
